Blood vessel diseases often only become noticeable when considerable damage has already occurred. Likewise, the risk of a stroke is considerably increased in the case of manifested hypoperfusion in the brain. It is additionally problematic that affected people in this situation have been long-term smokers. This is where the vicious circle begins: in order to recover or to give the treatment of vascular disease good chances of success, an immediate halt to smoking is required. This in turn is only rarely successful.
The EFVM, in collaboration with psychosomatic internists and psychologists at the MHB (Medical School Brandenburg), is developing a Smoke-Stop Program, which, by simple application, directly helps the patients stop smoking.
