The EFVM is committed to the prevention of vascular disease and women’s, maternal and child health. Since early 2017, a dedicated international mentoring project has been launched with the Princess Christian Maternity Hospital (PCMH) in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The PCMH is a university teaching hospital in Freetown.
The following means are used in this project:
- The development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to establish a solid teaching program.
- The establishment of a regular assistant doctor exchange program in rotation between the PCMH and care centres in Berlin.
- A study nurse program to establish a gestational diabetes registry and preeclampsia registry in Freetown and Berlin.
The close cooperation of the partners will result in a teaching and prevention project, which could become an important tool for the reduction of maternal mortality and prenatal morbidity in the long term.
